In Washington, Going to Washington

Finally, a personal wait is over in our home. Next fall Michael will be starting at American University’s Washington College of Law!

Could we have dreamed up a better fit? Since I’m writing this and not him, I can openly brag that this is an amazing school: ranked in the top ten in international law, clinical programs, trial advocacy and part-time opportunities, all of which were our biggest factors in choosing the right fit.

But even better! He will be focusing on international human rights law, and American’s program is possibly the best human rights law school out there. Just see for yourself here or here or here or here for a few reasons why.

I am so excited for him, and so excited to see him so excited. I knew I robbed the bank when I married him, and his strength and resolve in figuring out this next step has just been further proof. I respect him more than anyone else I know, and I’m sure to learn so much from him as he discovers how to defend the world’s most vulnerable people. Well, that, and contracts…

I’m especially excited for the unbeatable opportunities American offers in his field, and that I know he’ll thrive in. Check out some of the examples I linked to above if you want to see what I mean. All of this while he continues on as manager of the legal firm where he currently works.

So the next year and onward will be very busy, but a focused busy. It’s what we prepared for in advance when we moved here, and in a strange way, it’s what we have been looking forward to.

Congratulations, Michael!
